Football Giants GM Dave Gettleman Diagnosed With Lymphoma by Scott Rogust June 5, 2018 New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman revealed through a statement on Tuesday that he was recently diagnosed with lymphoma. Gettleman will begin his treatment in “the very near future.” “Recently, I underwent an annual physical, during which it was discovered I have lymphoma,” said Gettleman. “Over the past week, I have undergone more testing to determine the course of treatment, which is scheduled to start in the very near future. “The doctor’s outlook for the treatment and the prognosis is positive, and so am I.” According to the Amercan Cancer Society, lymphoma is a cancer that begins in the cells that are part of the body’s immune system. The announcement came as a shock to fans, the media, and even Giants players. The team was notified on Tuesday by head coach Pat Shurmur. Please keep Mr. Gettleman and his family in your prayers and thoughts. I know he will be stronger than ever when he returns!! I pray for a speedy recovery!! #getwellsoon — Alec ogletree (@MROGLETREE52) June 5, 2018 Prayers up for DG!! Fight on boss man!! — Damon Harrison Sr. (@snacks) June 5, 2018 Gettleman stressed that he will continue to work and keep in touch with Shurmur and assistant general manager Kevin Abrams. “I will continue to work as much as the treatment process will allow, and as they know, when I am not in the office, I will be in constant communication with Pat (Shurmur), Kevin (Abrams) and the rest of our staff,” said Gettleman. Gettleman was hired as New York’s general manager this past December, after the organization parted ways with Jerry Reese. After a 3-13 season, Gettleman hit the reset button by releasing/trading under-performing players, and bringing in new faces. To start off his tenure, Gettleman acquired left tackle Nate Solder and linebacker Alec Ogletree. In his first NFL Draft, Gettleman selected running back Saquon Barkley and guard Will Hernandez with his first two picks. Those selections were universally praised by experts, with many saying the Giants had the best draft this past April. As far as departures, Gettleman parted ways with Brandon Marshall, Jason Pierre-Paul, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, and Dwayne Harris. The news comes to the surprise of many, but that is not bringing Gettleman down. He has the support of the Giants organization, fans, and more importantly, his family. “I am thankful to John Mara and Steve Tisch and our organization for their support and encouragement, and to Ronnie Barnes for his guidance and assistance. And, of course, to my wife Joanne and our children for their love and support,” said Gettleman. “And I want to thank you in advance for respecting my privacy and that of my family as we work our way through this. I look forward to being back at full strength and devoting all my energy to helping make this 2018 New York Giants team the best it can be.” Post Views: 1,047 The following two tabs change content below.BioLatest Posts Scott Rogust General Editor and New York Giants Lead Writer.
