Home sweet home! Demetrius Andrade to face Maciej Sulecki in Rhode Island

A majority of attention in the middleweight division is focused on Canelo Alvarez, Daniel Jacobs and Gennady Golovkin. One man is looking to change all of that. Demetrius Andrade still holds middleweight gold, meaning that if any of these men want full control of the division they have to go through him.

For now, “Boo Boo” will look handle things his own way. He will be defending his WBO Middleweight Championship on June 29th for the second time since winning the vacant title from Walter Kautondokwa. His opponent? Maciej Sulęcki, a man who has faced and lost to Daniel Jacobs before. The venue? In Andrade’s backyard of Rhode Island, inside the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

“After tonight, there will be one guy with three of the belts, and I’ve got the fourth,” said Andrade prior to Canelo v. Jacobs. “Both guys (Alvarez and Jacobs) have been very vocal about wanting to unify after this fight, so let’s make it happen. We all feel that we are the best in the division, and there is only one way to find that out. I wish both Canelo and Danny well tonight, but they better know I’m there watching with a purpose.”

Andrade (27-0) last fought in January, defeating Artur Akavov via TKO in round twelve. With 17 wins via knockout, Andrade is not a paper champion. If he couldn’t get GGG, Canelo or Jacobs, he was very interested in fighting someone who they have fought against before.

Enter Sulecki (28-1), who is on a two-fight win streak after losing to Jacobs back in April of 2018. A man with 11 wins via KO, Sulecki will look to continue his momentum that Jacobs destroyed last year.
