The Islanders are on the brink of being eliminated from the playoffs after the Caps sent them to a second straight loss by the dominating scoreline of 5-1.

The Islanders got a quick goal from Josh Bailey on a nice setup from John Taveres but that unfortunately, was the highlight of the night.

The disparity between the two teams is growing larger and larger and in short, the Islanders deserve their fate.

Jaroslav Halak who looked so good in net for portions of the series, has been reduced to average status at best and was even replaced in this game by backup goalie Michal Neuvirth.

The goal that beat him in overtime was pretty soft and some of the goals he gave up last night were even worse.   The worst of the bunch was allowing a goal that could barely even be considered a shot attempt that he let slip between the post and his right shin pad.

The Islanders once again managed just 1 goal and couldn’t solve Braden Holtby who is making Washington brass look brighter and brighter which each passing day for shipping out Halak before the start of the season.

The Isles who once found themselves perched atop the Metropolitan division of the Eastern Conference, now find themselves looking quite pedestrian compared to what was the second place finisher in the division.

Washington got a goal from Evgeny Kusnetzov moments after Bailey’s strike and the Caps had the game knotted after 1 period.

In the second the Capitals took the lead when Jaro Halak couldn’t control a loose puck and the Karl Alzner gave the home team the lead that the would not relinquish.

As the Isles spent most the game arguing with the officials as the Caps broke it open with third period goals from Brooks Laich and Jason Chimira and Kusnetzov added his second to complete the blowout.
