Football Jet Up – Jets down Redskins in Washington by Chris Passarelli November 18, 2019 Are the Jets actually a decent team or are the Redskins that bad? Either way, the New York Jets dominated Dwayne Haskins and the Washington Redskins in a 34-17 shellacking that reads closer than it was. Sam Darnold was decent but the star of the game was Jamal Adams, who compiled three sacks as a safety, an incredible feat. Darnold went 19-for-30 with 293 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. He wasn’t perfect but his four touchdowns were a season high. Ryan Griffin stepped in once again for the injured Chris Herndon, catching five passes for 109 yards and a touchdown. Jamison Crowder had a mighty game against his former team, also catching five passes for 76 yards and a touchdown. The Jets absolutely dominated the first half against the ‘Skins. On the first drive of the game, Darnold drove the Jets down 75 yards and hit Daniel Brown for a 20 yard touchdown. The Redskins couldn’t get anything going on offense, partly because the Jets pressured Haskins all game, compiling ten QB hits and six sacks. The Jets went up 13-0 when Darnold hit Robbie Anderson for a six yard score. The Redskins got a field goal later in the quarter but once again couldn’t capitalize on good field position. Darnold ended his excellent half with a nice 16 yard TD throw to Ryan Griffin. The Redskins could have came back from 20-3 down but the Jets’ defense prevented them from doing so. Vyncint Smith fumbled the ball in his own territory and Darnold threw a bad pick, but the Redskins couldn’t score on either of those possessions. The Jets threw all over the Redskins and extended the lead to 27-3 on a 29 yard TD pass to Jaminson Crowder. Le’Veon Bell (59 yards on 18 carries) got on the board with a one yard TD run. By the time the Redskins started to score, the game was well out of reach. The highlight for the Redskins was a 45 yard catch to Derrius Guice. However, the game was won early in the fourth quarter. What does this mean for the Jets going forward? Well they have some winnable games down the stretch. The Raiders are a decent team but they’re not world beaters. In the two games following that, they play the hapless Bengals and the Dolphins. After that it’s anyone’s guess, but at least this team is trying their hardest to compete and they came away with a victory on Sunday.
