Darnold is the issue with Jets, not Gase

New York Jets Chairman/CEO Christopher Johnson told the media Wednesday that head coach Adam Gase would not be fired this season. Jets fans may not like the decision made by the front office, but it is the right one.

Gase had made Jay Cutler, a less than average quarterback, look decent with two different teams – the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins. Gase is not the problem for Gang Green – Sam Darnold is.

New York drafted Darnold third overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. The decision to draft Darnold at all was the first mistake that the Jets made.

Sure, he had a very stellar sophomore season in 2016 at USC. Then 2017 rolled around and Darnold showed what type of quarterback he really is. He threw 13 interceptions during the 2017 season and was sacked 29 times. That tells that he has a tough time releasing the football in time.

That 2017 season followed him into the NFL, where his first pass was intercepted by Detroit Lions cornerback Qunadre Diggs. As of right now, he has thrown 24 touchdowns in the NFL with 24 interceptions to go along with it.

Another point to make about Darnold is that he is becoming the joke of the NFL. After throwing four interceptions against the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football in Week 7, Darnold said he was “seeing ghosts” on the field.

The Jets have hit another low this season by allowing the Miami Dolphins, who have been historically bad, to get their first win of the season back in Week 9.

Many media members and the Jets continue to support Darnold as the starting quarterback. That is the precise reason they will continue to be a disaster of a franchise. The sooner they decide to search for their next franchise quarterback, the better.

Ironically, the Jets currently sit with the fourth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. There are several talented quarterbacks available New York may want to take a look at.
