Jets Solidify Future of O-Line, Sign Nick Mangold

It’s rare when a center becomes one of the faces of a franchise. When that happens, he must be a good one.

It’s rare when a center becomes one of the faces of a franchise. When that happens, he must be a good one.

Over the past couple years, Nick Mangold has become one of the best at his position in the NFL. He is the anchor of the offensive line and the New York Jets have reportedly locked him up for the future.

Mangold and the Jets have agreed on a seven year deal worth $55 million.

The deal has not been officially announced because a few details are still being ironed out. The amount of guaranteed money is expected to be over $20 million.

Mangold was entering the final year of his rookie contract and had been disappointed in the slow pace in which negotiations were moving. He decided to attend training camp in hopes it would show the Jets that while wanting an extension, he was still about the team and becoming a leader.

The center is the second young offensive lineman the Jets were able to lock up to long term extensions. In July, the team signed left tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson to a six year, $60 million extension.

The future of the New York Jets offensive line looks good.
