Joel Embiid continues to turn heads for surging Sixers

If you stayed up late on Wednesday night, you witnessed an exciting game between the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers.  More importantly, it was a match up featuring three young stars who have a chance to transcend the game of basketball.

On one side of the court, you had Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons for the Sixers.  On the other side, you had Lonzo Ball, the second pick in the 2017 NBA draft, as well as his father Lavar. The Sixers topped the Lakers, thanks to the colossal numbers put up by both of Philly’s youngsters.  Embiid had the game of his life, finishing with a career-high 46 points to go along with 15 rebounds, seven assists and seven blocks.  Simmons chipped in 18 points, 10 assists, nine boards and five steals, missing a triple-double by just one rebound.

Embiid became the first Sixers player to score at least 40 points in a single game since Hall-of-Famer Allen Iverson, who scored 45 in a game back in 2006.  With his play on the court and his larger than life personality, Embiid has lit the basketball scene on fire.

He has also made headlines off the court for his Twitter comments centering around the Ball family for the past several months.  “I wish there was more trash talk on the court but I played ball with my team,” Embiid said after the victory.  Lavar Ball is said that the Sixers need to practice more, because of the injuries that have kept both Embiid and Simmons from playing during their rookie seasons.  Embiid even showed some respect to Lonzo after the game, posting on Twitter that he “like’s Lonzo’s game.”

A healthy Embiid is scary to watch. It’s not secret the Sixers can be very good with the combination of a healthy Simmons and Embiid. If they keep it up, “the process” just might be playoff-bound.
