Delsea reclaims South Jersey Group 3 title with win over Woodrow Wilson

The South Jersey, Group 3 title has found its way back to its home in Franklinville. Christmas came early for the Delsea Crusaders.

Over the past six years, Delsea has earned five out of six championships. This year, it is returning once again. Saturday’s win was just what the Crusaders ordered with a 29-28 score over Woodrow Wilson.

The win marks head coach Sal Marchise 200th career victory on his coaching resume.

“It was a helluva game,” Marchise said with a big smile on his face.

With the Crusaders walking into this week, coach Machise wasn’t quiet sure what was going to happen against the 8-4 Woodrow Wilson Tigers.

“We haven’t played in two weeks,” he explained. “Last year we didn’t play to our full potential. They have worked so hard.”

With the game underway, Aidan Borguet and Kizee led with touchdown runs by 15-0. Tommy Maxwell suffered an ankle injury and did not return to the game.

Woodrow Wilson didn’t waste any time putting points on the board right before intermission to cut the lead to 15-14. Not to mention, at the end of the third quarter, the scoreboard was deadlocked at 22-22.

With fans on the edge of their seat, Woodrow Wilson had one more opportunity to take the game. That fell short with a fumble on Delsea’s 33. The first down they couldn’t get thanks to Jay Wright breaking up the final play.

The Crusaders finished off with the 29-28 win.

“Hats off to Delsea,” Wilson Woodrow’s head coach said.

One of the big stars of this game was quarterback, Nick Kargman. The junior completed 24 of 28 pass attempts for 315 yards and three touchdowns.
