MBB: Hall routes Marquette to open BIG EAST play

The Seton Hall University men’s basketball team defeated the Marquette Golden Eagles 83-63 Wednesday at BMO Harris Bradley Center to open BIG EAST play.

The Pirates were led by sophomores Desi Rodriguez, who scored a career-high 19 points, Angel Delgado, who tallied his sixth consecutive double-double and Khadeen Carrington who tallied his first career double-double.

The Pirates limited the Golden Eagles to 25.8 percent shooting in the second half while going on the offensive with 14 field goals and 13 free throws in the final 20 minutes. Seton Hall opens BIG EAST play 1-0 for a fourth consecutive season and has now won sixth straight games overall.

Rodriguez had his 19 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field and 9-of-10 shooting from the charity stripe despite playing only 20 minutes in the game due to foul trouble. Delgado’s dominance continued with 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Carrington got into the double-double act with 17 points, 10 boards and five assists.

Sophomore Isaiah Whitehead had 16 points and dished out seven assists in the Pirates offensive attack. Seton Hall shot 43.5 percent for the game and made half of its three-point attempts, going 5-for-10. The Pirates were nearly lights out at the free throw line, swishing 24 of 28 attempts which tied a season high in percentage at 85.7 percent.

The Pirates will return home to the friendly confines of the Prudential Center Saturday as they host DePaul bright and early at 11 a.m.
