Photo Credit: The National Basketball Association Basketball NBA Suspends 2019-2020 NBA Season Until Further Notice by Andre Oge March 11, 2020 As of Wednesday night, the NBA has officially suspended the remainder of the 2019-2020 NBA Season. The suspension is an obvious response to the Coronavirus, which has been deemed an epidemic. Earlier this week, the NBA joined the other major sports organizations (i.e. NFL, MLS, and MLB) in banning all media from the locker rooms until further notice. The next step was projected to be that the games would continue without an audience. However, things changed on Wednesday and the season was suspended indefinitely. There were rumors last week that Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks had tested positively for the virus. Those reports were never confirmed. However, just moments away from the tip off in the Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Utah Jazz game on Wednesday night, it was confirmed that Jazz center, Rudy Gobert, tested positively for the Coronavirus. In response, the police shut down the area, fans were sent home, and the game was suspended. The remainder of the games for Wednesday night continued as scheduled. However, after tonight, the season will be cancelled until further notice. Without a doubt, this is disappointing to NBA fans who were gearing up for a rather tense playoff run. However, the priority here is the safety and health of everyone including fans, coaching staff, and of course the players themselves. In the last few days, closures such as this have become more common, with schools and jobs shutting down temporarily. This may be the first for the league, and as more information comes out, we will all have to be patient as the League and other major institutions adapt. In Conclusion As the Coronavirus continues to spread, it is important that everyone keep calm and comply with healthcare instructions coming out of the appointed federal agencies. Thoroughly washing your hands with soap and water, covering your mouth, and staying home when feeling sick can make all the difference. This is something that everyone should take seriously, and clearly that includes the NBA. With all the chaos, on behalf of Double G Sports, stay safe and stay calm.
