Uncategorized New York Sports Scene Heating Up As Calendar Draws Closer To Spring by Staff Post February 17, 2016 The early portion of the 2016 sports world seems to be racing by, as the Super Bowl is firmly in the rearview mirror and spring training in Major League Baseball appears to be right around the corner. While February is already halfway over and the sports schedule continues to leave a blazing trail, there is still plenty to get excited about over the next few months. Starting in February and running through April, that’s especially the case in New York, where the NBA, NHL and MLB are all primed to offer insane value via New York sporting event tickets. To get a good idea of what NYC fans should be getting excited about, let’s break down the top priced events left on the schedule from the main New York teams from February through April, per TiqIQ.com: 3/26/2016 – New York Knicks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers at Madison Square Garden | Avg: $637.29 | Get-in: $169 The Knicks take the top spot in late March, as they welcome LeBron James and the Cavs into MSG. Cleveland has dominated the season series this year (3-0), but Melo and co. will surely get up for the opportunity to take on one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, as well as to avoid a 4-0 sweep. New York has been struggling of late, but could be lifted by potential moves ahead of the NBA trade deadline or could get a significant push from Kristaps Porzingis and Melo following some much-needed rest at the All-Star break. Aside from the star power of James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love, this game also could be key in New York’s bid for a playoff spot. This game is certainly too big to miss out on for a variety of reasons, but it’s obviously quite pricey. Luckily die hard fans can potentially received a massive discount if they enter and win the 24 Hour Fitness-TiqIQ ticket giveaway. Winning fans get a new lease on life thanks to a free 6-month gym membership and thanks to TiqIQ.com, they would also receive a whopping $500 in free credit. Fans can hit the gym and get a good sweat, then hit the NYC night life before going over to MSG for a cool $500 less than what they’d normally pay for top notch seats. That’s one heck of a way to spend March 26th, especially if the Knicks can steal a big home win. 2/19/2016 – Brooklyn Nets vs. New York Knicks at Barclays Center | Avg: $418.97 | Get-in: $80 The Knicks dominate the New York ticket market, as they hold the top two spots in our early 2016 list. That’s no shocker with their history and the quality of star power they have via Melo and Zinger, nor should anyone be shocked that an intracity battle with the Nets draws a lot of hype. Brooklyn is the inferior team in every regard, but they still have some top shelf talent in Thaddeus Young and Brook Lopez. If those two can bring their A game down low, the Nets could very well make a good of it with this one at the Barclays Center. 3/6/2016 – New York Rangers vs. New York Islanders at Madison Square Garden | Avg: $402.49 | Get-in: $157 This is the most expensive set of NHL tickets left on the docket for both of hockey’s New York dwellers, and it’s not shocking given the hated rivalry stemming from the Metropolitan Division. Both the Islanders and Rangers are likely to make the 2016 NHL playoffs, but only one can really have a shot at unseating the best team in the league (Washington Capitals) from first place in the division. Even though doing so is unlikely, this March 6 battle could decide who has that opportunity as the regular season winds down. Take that away and you still have an intense Metro Division clash with playoff implications included. That figures to be a rivalry game worth paying up for. 4/8/2016 – New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field | Avg: $361.85 | Get-in: $119 The Mets kick off their 2016 season at the Royals, but things don’t ever officially get going in baseball until you open up the year in front of your home crowd. That’s precisely what will be going down on April 8th, when Mets tickets climb up to roughly $361 on average against the lowly Phillies at Citi Field. This is a very favorable matchup for the Mets, who may have to rebound from a tough two-game slate in Kansas City to start the year. They should be able to reward fans with a big home win right away in this one, which should help make up for the steep price of Mets tickets, which end up rising a good $260 over their season average. It’s still a relative bargain for the season’s home opener and fans will be amped to see the Mets shooting for a blowout over their rivals. 4//4/2016 – New York Yankees vs. Houston Astros at Yankee Stadium | Avg: $327.91 | Get-in: $57 This is actually a surprisingly great deal when you factor in that the Astros are an elite opponent, the cheap seats are a very reasonable $57 and this game opens the 2016 season at Yankee Stadium. Despite all of that, New York Yankees tickets still aren’t even $330 on average, which means you can still get lower level seats for a reasonable price if you hunt long enough. This is quite the climb for New York’s season average (about $120), but for opening day at Yankee Stadium, it’s arguably worth it. It’s about to be a wild ride in New York sports, and it all gets started with a very intense second half in February. The Knicks, Islanders and Rangers extend their push for the playoffs and before long the Mets and Yankees will be back to pick up where they left off. It’s an exciting time to be a New York sports fan, which makes now the time to take advantage of these killer deals.
