If the CFB season is cancelled, would the NFL take advantage of the opening to play games on Saturday’s as well as their typical Sunday slate? The National Football League typically only plays games on Saturday late in the season when college football is between their regular season and bowl games. The hiccup in the plan would be the league would need to negotiate around current broadcast restrictions. The current agreements prevents the league from airing games on Friday and Saturday during the college season. From Pro Football Talk: “Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the NFL likely will move games from Sundays to Saturday, if college football doesn’t proceed this season. It’s unclear whether the games would be broadcast, streamed, or distributed on a pay-per-view basis, but the league likely would backfill the vacant Saturday windows with NFL content. The college football season is hanging on by a thread these days as conferences have reportedly met to discuss cancellation or postponement to the spring. The Big Ten has begun discussions and many believe all five power conferences would like to create a unified front in any decision. The Ivy League and some other lower level football conferences have already announced cancellations. UConn was the first bowl-eligible program to cancel it’s fall season. The Huskies were set to play the 2020 season as an independent program. The NFL season is set to being Thursday, September 10.
