College One Day Away from the Temple/Notre Dame Showdown by Renee Washington October 30, 2015 If you have not seen the “I Believe” commercials yet announcing the game, Undefeated Temple (7-0) hosts No. 9 Notre Dame (6-1) at Lincoln Financial Field tomorrow at 8 p.m ET. Temple is ranked No. 21/22 in Top 25 rankings this week after defeating the East Carolina University 24-14 last Thursday. Temple has outscored its seven opponents 137-29 in the second half so far this season. The Owls held the Pirates scoreless in the final 30 minutes of the game and scored 14 unanswered points. WR Robby Anderson scored a 23-yard touchdown and RB Jahad Thomas ran for a 14-yard TD to give Temple the 10 point lead and seal the victory. Many of Temple’s players received weekly honors for their performance. Senior LB Tyler Matakevich was named the defensive player of the week after recording a game-high 13 tackles along with a sack and an interception against ECU. As beforementioned, Matakevich led the Owl defense that held the Pirates scoreless in the second half of the game. Matakevich is the only FBS player to lead his team in tackles every single game this season. Once again, he led his team in tackles last Thursday. Junior DL Sharif Finch earned AAC Special Teams player of the week after blocking two punts in the fourth quarter. Both plays led to the fourth quarter touchdowns by Anderson and Thomas. His first game-changing block came while the Owls trailed 14-10 early in the fourth quarter and led to a seven-play drive that gave the Owls the lead. His second block came on East Carolina’s next offensive drive at the 15-yard line. Senior WR Robby Anderson received a spot on the weekly honor roll after scoring a touchdown and eight receptions for 126 yards in the Owl’s victory. Both Temple and Notre Dame did not play last Saturday. Temple is coming off an eight-day break, but Notre Dame is coming off a two-week break after defeating the USC Trojans 41-31 on October 17. No. 21/22 Owls and No.( Fighting Irish kick off at 8 p.m ET on ABC.
