College Princeton Beats Dartmouth, Shares Ivy League Title With Penn by Lou Monaco November 19, 2016 (Photo by Rob Samuels – Double G Media) The rivals share another title again. Junior John Lovett had two one-yard touchdown runs and threw a 3-yard TD pass to senior tight end Scott Carpenter in the fourth quarter to power Princeton to a 38-21 Senior Day victory over Dartmouth at Powers Field at Princeton Stadium in front of 8,320 Saturday to share the Ivy League title with respected rival Pennsylvania. Despite a 28-0 loss at Princeton two weeks ago, Penn (7-3, 6-1 Ivy) upended Cornell, 42-20 to capture its second straight and 18th overall Ivy League crown. Lovett’s second TD of the day gave him Princeton’s single-season TD rushing record with 20, previously held by the Tigers’ all-time great Keith Elias. Senior quarterback Chad Kanoff threw a 14-yard TD pass to sophomore wide receiver Jesper Horsted and sophomore running back Charlie Volker added a 39-yard TD run, both in the fourth quarter, for Princeton (8-2, 6-1 Ivy), which won four straight and seven of its last eight games to end the season, snapped a six-game losing streak to Dartmouth, and captured 11th Ivy League championship and its first since 2013. Freshman kicker Tavish Rice kicked a 23-yard field goal for Princeton in the second quarter. Trailing 14-10 entering the third quarter, Princeton scored 28 unanswered points in the second half prior to a 1-yard TD run by Dartmouth’s Ryder Stone with just 21 seconds remaining in the game. Volker had 18 carries for 111 yards and Kanoff completed 14-of-24 passes for 200 yards to pace Princeton offensively. Seniors Dorian Williams and Rohan Hylton each had nine tackles apiece for Princeton, whose Class of 2017 ends a four-year run with 26 wins, more than any Princeton class since the 1960s (freshmen were not varsity eligible until 1994), and it became the first class since that time period to play on two Ivy championship teams.
