Staten Island Yankees Pitching Staff Shines On

Wednesday night, Rodney Hutchinson made his first professional start for the Staten Island Yankees. He got through three solid innings of work in which he only allowed a hit and walked two while striking out four.

The Yankees came in hot in what turned out to be a one sided run fest. They won 10-0 over Vermont which included a three-run homer by Ricardo Ferreiras.

Staten Island has turned around their season after starting 4-11 last month. June has been hot for the baby bombers! They are 13-3 this month and have won 12 of their last 14 games.

Despite Wednesday being a slug fest, that has not been the case along the season. In June, nine out of the 16 games played have been decided by two runs or fewer.

Pitching has been a major key to their new found success. The starting rotation has been impeccable, since the beginning of the month only Juan De Paula has allowed more than two runs in a start and that was back on July 2.

The starters have combined for 81.2 innings, striking out 67 batters and 35 walks given, with a 1.77 combined ERA. Harold Cortijo has allow just four earned runs in 19 innings of work in his last four starts

The ERA leader of the team is Roansy Contreras, in five starts he has stroke out 32 batters and has a 1.26 ERA. After four starts Nolan Martinez has a 1.96 ERA to his name on the season, Matt Sauers has posted a 2.05 ERA in five starts.
