Turley Strikes Out 12 To Lead Patriots To 5-0 Shutout Win

92turleywebYork, PA – Southpaw Nik Turley struck out a season-high 12, and the Somerset Patriots (30-25, 68-57) pitchers retired the final 17 batters they faced as the visitors blanked the York Revolution (29-24, 69-54) 5-0 Friday evening at PeoplesBank Ballpark.

“I love to compete and challenge hitters and tonight I was able to be a lot more consistent than my last couple of starts,” said Turley of his outing. He earned the win (4-1) hurling six innings while only scattering four hits. He walked none and now has struck out 53 batters in eight appearances this year.

“It was a fun and simple game to catch because whatever finger I put down, [Turley] executed the pitch perfectly,” said batterymate Yovan Gonzalez. “That’s as good as it gets in baseball.”

The Patriots broke the scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning. Eric Farris blooped a double then Bryan LaHair roped an RBI single to give Somerset a 1-0 lead.

David Vidal cranked his league leading 22nd home run as his two-run blast in the eighth stretched the lead to 3-0.

Somerset tacked on two insurance runs in the ninth inning on a Farris RBI sacrifice fly and an Aharon Eggleston RBI single. Eggleston has now reached base in 37 consecutive games which is the longest streak by an Atlantic League player in 2016.

Frank Gailey suffered the loss (5-4). He threw seven innings and allowed one run.

Patriots’ pitchers struck out 14 batters and walked none on the evening. Kyler Newby, Jim Miller and Mike Thomas each threw an inning to close the game.

The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues on the road until the team returns to TD Bank Ballpark on Monday, September 5th for a 6:05 p.m. game against the Sugar Land Skeeters.
