Weekend Trends including Wimbledon, Kirk, and SSUSA

Good morning, Monday!

This weekend’s trends were mostly about the #SundayChampionship that happened in London.  Novak Djokovic had his fast ball going strong, and according to reports his serves were well over 100 mph.  How’s that for speed?  Djokovic managed to repeat his victory, by beating Roger Federer, the No. 2 seed, 7-6 (1), 6-7 (10), 6-4, 6-3.

Along with Wimbledon, Street Soccer USA, was revved up in Times Square as many competed for the trophy for the first ever sporting event held at Times Square.  If you happened to be in Times Square this weekend, you got to see all the magic as teams competed for goals bigger than winning. Of course, the weekend trends began with the drama in the NFL, with the announcement of Greg Hardy’s reduced suspension for his conviction on two counts of domestic violence.  This is total ridiculousness, but more than probably makes sense to Roger Goodell.

Let’s see, what else?  Oh the Yanks played the RedSox which is always fun, and Kirk Nieuwenhuis of the New York Mets hit 3 homers in one game.  Somebody may want to tell him the All-Star Home-Run Derby is not in Flushing this year!  Just kidding! Congrats to the young man who got a standing ovation after becoming the 10th player in Mets history to hit three home runs in a game.

This leads us to what’s on deck.  If you happened to be listening to the radio this weekend, you already know the official hashtag for the MLB Home Run Derby is #HRDerby and you got to hear all about the great bracket challenge over at www.mlb.com.  There is a chance to win $5000. and the players participating the HR Derby will square off against one another tonight, as the MLB gets ready for it’s All-Star week.

Well that’s it for now.  It’s summertime and I’m heading out to see what’s going on at the library.  No doubt  something’s missing, but remember it’s Monday, and it’s summertime.  It’s takes a little while, for my brain to get in sync when school’s out.

Remember you’re always welcome to share your thoughts on what’s trending over the weekend, and if you get them to me via email before 8 am on Monday, chances are they will be included in the ‘Monday Morning’ column!  Email address is mondaymorningmichelle@gmail.com.  Don’t forget to follow me on Twitter, @SportSXMichelle, and be sure to share a DM about what’s trending in sports, whenever you see something going on.
