Baseball Yankees shine in tight All-Star Game by Chris Passarelli July 10, 2019 The 2019 All-Star Game in Cleveland may not have been a “mid-summer classic” like the Home Run Derby was the night before, but the Yankees showed up on nonetheless on Tuesday night. The American League defeated the National League 4-3 with two Yankees on the box score. Masahiro Tanaka was credited with the “victory”, going one inning of one hit ball after spelling Justin Verlander in the second inning. Aroldis Chapman sealed the deal with a 1-2-3 ninth inning in which he struck out the side. Gary Sanchez started the game and went 1-for-2 with a run scored while D.J. Lemahieu, the other All-Star starter on the Yankees, actually put up a goose egg in his two at-bats. The lone reserve, Gleyber Torres, filled in for Lemahieu and recorded a hit as well. The moment of the night however was when honorary All-Star C.C. Sabathia came out with two outs in the ninth to check on Aroldis Chapman. Obviously it was pre-planned to give a send off to C.C. in what will be his final season, but it was heartwarming nonetheless. The city where it all started for C.C. gave him a rousing ovation; https://twitter.com/YESNetwork/status/1148961894809706496 Overall the All-Star Game could not have been more of a success for the Yankees. Each player got to display why they were in the All-Star Game in the first place, C.C. Sabathia got his moment in the sun and no one was hurt during the game. The last thing the Yankees need right now is another injury.
