(Photo by Maddie Meyer/Getty Images) The NCAA Men’s Hockey Championship is over and here are the results. The 16 teams were split up into four Regions: Midwest, East, Northeast and West, consisting of four teams each. The Midwest Region saw Minnesota State at Mankato as the #1 seed. The other three teams were: Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), Nebraska-Omaha and Harvard. RIT scored the biggest upset of the Tournament, when they defeated Minnesota State, but then they lost to Nebraska-Omaha; who had beaten Harvard. The East Region had Miami, Oh as the #1 seed and Providence, Denver and Boston College rounded out that four. Denver knocked off BC and Providence dropped Miami, OH in the first round and the Friars of Providence then defeated Denver to make the Frozen Four. The Northeast Region was very difficult to pick, for it had some great teams. Boston University was the #1 seed, followed by Yale, Minnesota Duluth and the Golden Gophers of the University of Minnesota. BU took care of Yale and Minnesota Duluth dropped the Gophers, before the Terriers of BU punched their ticket to the Frozen Four. Out West, North Dakota was in the top spot, with Quinnipiac, Michigan Tech and St. Cloud State. This region was also very difficult to pick. North Dakota took out Quinnipiac and St. Cloud State beat Michigan Tech, before they in turn lost to North Dakota. So the Frozen Four was set. Nebraska-Omaha would meet Providence and BU would face off against North Dakota. The result was an all-New England title game, because Providence and Boston University made it through. The TD Garden was alive on Saturday evening as the champions of college hockey were about to be crowned. Boston University held a 3-2 lead heading into the third period, but the Providence Friars would not quit and were able to score twice in the third, to topple a great Terrier team and win the title. So there you have it folks; the 2015 NCAA Men’s Hockey Champions are the Friars of Providence University.
