Temple Dominates Nationally Ranked Memphis, Controls Own Destiny In AAC

Temple (9-2) defeated No. 21 Memphis (8-3) 31-12 on Saturday at the Lincoln Financial field. The win puts the Owls one game closer to the championship game. The Owls could also clinch the spot with a UCF win over USF on Thanksgiving. If the Bulls win over UCF, Temple has to win over UConn on Saturday.

QB P.J. Walker threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns for the Owls in a sound 19 point win against Memphis. The Owls finished with 461 yards of offense, while the Temple defense limited the Tigers to 232 yards and 13 first downs. Memphis was held to four field goals by Jake Elliot and no touchdowns all game. The game was Memphis’ first game without a touchdown since they played the University of Mississippi on Sep. 27, 2014.

The Owls scored 17 of their points in the fourth quarter and held the Tigers scoreless for the quarter. For the final tallies of the game, the Owls ran 7:59 off the clock on a 13-play, 62-yard drive in the final quarter that ended in a 35-yard field goal by Austin Jones with a little over five minutes left in the game. Walker threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Saldeem Major.  It was the fifth game this season Temple scored 30+ points.

Coming up the Owls face the UConn Huskies in a must win game on Saturday, November 29. Kickoff is at 7:00pm ET at the Lincoln Financial Field.
