Football Sam Darnold showing maturity, humility through struggles by Chris Passarelli November 6, 2018 Sam Darnold took another step back on Sunday when he threw four interceptions in a terrible 13-6 loss to the Miami Dolphins. The worst of the interceptions was a blind pass that turned into a pick six. That touchdown was the only one of the game. However, on Monday Darnold took full responsibility for his actions, and apologized to both his offensive line and defense. His words spoke volumes, as he blamed himself solely for the loss and vowed to be better. It shows a maturity that a quarterback needs to have. Darnold has been absolutely horrendous this year. He has 1,934 yards with 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He’s thrown multiple interceptions in four games, and has thrown at least one in all but two games. Darnold has had a rough go of it, but his maturity and his accountability means that even though he hasn’t had the success on the field, it doesn’t mean that he isn’t the right guy for the job. Troy Aikman went 1-15 in his rookie year and looked worse than Darnold ever has. Darnold may throw a lot of interceptions, but he also has thrown some fantastic balls. His throws to Robbie Anderson has been spectacular, but he needs to be more consistent. As long as he has the same mentality and work ethic, he still has a chance to be a great quarterback. The results aren’t there yet, but if he keeps up with it he will hopefully get there. All Jets fans are hoping and praying so.
