Boxing Michael Conlan set to rock MSG once again on St. Patrick’s Day weekend Conlan is looking to go 11-0 in his young career as the competition continues to grow. by Daniel Yanofsky January 25, 2019 In what has become an annual tradition, the Irish are once again set to invade Madison Square Garden. Michael Conlan, the current WBO Inter-Continental Featherweight Champion, will face off against Ruben Garcia Hernandez inside the Hulu Theater in New York. It is unknown if his title will be on the line, but it is all but guaranteed. The fight will be promoted by Top Rank Promotions on ESPN and will air immediately after the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 17th. ESPN+ will be the primary host of the fight. “I’m excited and honored to fight at my home away from home, The Mecca of Boxing, Madison Square Garden, on St. Patrick’s Day for the third consecutive year,” Conlan said. “The fans in New York City have been incredibly supportive of my professional career, and I look forward to putting on a show for them, in addition to my great fans from Ireland who will be coming over for the party in Manhattan. Thanks very much to my team and Top Rank for this tremendous opportunity. I’ll be well prepared for victory to kick off a huge year for me in 2019.” Conlan (10-0) made his debut inside the Hulu Theater on St. Patrick’s Day in 2017, defeating Tim Ibarra via TKO. Since then, the two-time Olympian has gone undefeated, winning six of his fights via knockout. His last win was via unanimous decision against legitimate competitor Jason Cunningham back in December. Hernandez’s (24-3-2) last bout against Marlembron Acuna ended in a majority-decision draw. Before then, he was on a two-fight win streak. With 10 wins via knockout, he provides some true competition to Conlan, who is slowly but surely making his way up the ranks in the boxing world. Tickets for the bout are on sale now. They range from various prices: $206, $156, $106, $81, $56, and $31. You can grab your tickets now at the MSG Box Office or at Ticketmaster.com.
