Carli Lloyd Inducted Into NJ Hall of Fame

Asbury Park, NJ (May 6, 2018) – When you are a two-time FIFA world player of the year, a two-time Olympic Gold medalist and a World Cup champion, you’re deemed to be a legend. Getting inducted into New Jersey’s Hall of Fame this past weekend is only one of many accomplishments in Carli Lloyd’s professional soccer career.

This year marked the 10th anniversary of the NJ Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Fourteen honorees, including Lloyd, were recognized at the historic Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, NJ. Eric LeGrand presented Lloyd during the induction ceremony. LeGrand, was paralyzed while playing football for Rutgers University in 2010. Both, LeGrand and Lloyd are former Rutgers’ alumni and NJ natives.

A Legend’s Past

Previous to her international debut in 2005 against Ukraine with the U.S National Women’s Soccer team, Lloyd was a member of the U21 youth national team, winning four consecutive titles at the Nordic Cup from 2002 to 2005.

Lloyd attended Rutgers University from 2001 to 2004 and was a member of the Scarlet Knights women’s soccer team. During those four years, Lloyd’s performance credited her to being named to the First-Team All-Big East during the four consecutive years of her college careers.

Lloyd’s international soccer career is overwhelmingly impressive. Honors and awards include two-time FIFA world player of the year (2015, 2016), two-time Olympic Gold medalist (2008, 2012), World Cup champion (2015), CONCACAF Women’s Player of the Year (2015), FIFA FIFPro World XI (2015, 2016), The Best FIFA Women’s Player (2016), Algarve Cup MVP (2007), and U.S Soccer Athlete of the Year (2008), to mention some.

Most recently, Carli Lloyd joined the list of five other USWNT players to have scored 100 or more international career goals.

What the Future Holds

Carli Lloyd currently plays for Sky Blue FC of the NWSL. She was acquired by the NJ team on a blockbuster trade with the Chicago Red Stars back in January. As the team captain, her leadership on and off the field does not go unnoticed.

Lloyd is approaching her 250 international career caps; she continues to fight for a spot on the USWNT starting XI. Lloyd is expected to be part of the roster for two international friendly matches coming up in June. These matches are part of the preparation for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.

There is still lots of Carli Lloyd for the future. Soon after her historic 100th goal, she tweeted: “Thanks for the support. 100 but still not satisfied.”
