Olympics / Team USA It Has Always Been Carli Lloyd’s Moment to Shine by Paola Garcia Cardenas June 20, 2019 Carli Lloyd did it during the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada, and she has done it again at the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France. In fact, she has been shining ever since she has been a part of the United States Women’s National Team. Still, I believe we have not seen it all just yet for the remainder of this World Cup. The show just started for Lloyd, and she is unstoppable. 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup The New Jersey native, who is currently playing for Sky Blue FC in the NWSL league, became the first player to ever score a hat trick in a Women’s World Cup final back in 2015. And of course, she became a world champion. If those moments do not give you goosebumps, I do not know what will. 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup This year, during the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, Lloyd has put on quite a show for the fans and has broken yet another career record, after only the second match for the United States Women’s National Team during the group stage. After scoring against Thailand on June 11, Lloyd was part of the starting eleven against Chile on June 16, and was a key player throughout the game, opening the scoreboard for the U.S. With that first goal against Chile, Carli Lloyd became the first player ever to score in six straight FIFA Women’s World Cup games. She finished the game with two goals, securing a spot for the U.S. for the round of sixteen, with the 3-0 win over Chile. Although, the U.S. has already qualified to the next round, Lloyd will continue to do her magic on the field. Most probably, we will be hearing about some other record-breaking event. Because if there is something I am sure about is that it has always been Carli Lloyd’s moment to shine. Every single game she steps foot on the field. Today’s Match The last group stage match for the U.S. Women’s National team against Sweden at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup is set to kick-off today at 3:00 PM ET. You can watch the game on Fox or Telemundo.
