Baseball Cyclones Get Lucky on Irish Night Brooklyn native Manny Rodriguez hit his first professional home run in Cyclones 13-6 win. by Stefany Romero August 3, 2018 The Brooklyn Cyclones got very lucky on Irish Night, Thursday, as they finished victorious against the Aberdeen IronBirds. The Cyclones had an explosive first inning as they opened up the game with six runs. The momentum was hard to keep up in the first inning as Walter Rasquin went 2-for-4, including a three-run, bases-clearing double in Brooklyn’s six-run first inning to take a 6-1 lead. The Cyclones didn’t stop there as they continued with three runs in the second inning. They added three runs in the third inning as well, and Brooklyn native and shortstop Manny Rodriguez hit his first professional home run on which he noted was also his moms birthday during the post game interview. He also stated how, opposed to his previous season with Cincinnati, this season he has changed a few things. “Before, I think I was pretty much determining my swing before the pitch and now I’m more patient and taking the time to see the ball coming in and adjust to what pitch it is and just swing as hard as I can,” said Rodriguez. Wagner Lagrange then hit a two-run double in the third inning to put the Cyclones ahead, 12-1. It started to rain briefly but this didn’t stop the Cyclones as they scored another run in the 4th. Thursday night’s game showed much more explosive momentum than the previous game against the Tri-City Valley Cats the night before, where the Cyclones got saved by a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth from Anthony Dirocie. Manager Edgardo was very happy with Thursday’s results, stating, “The offense was pretty good. I mean I was just talking about how my arms were hurting from waving to the sky to go to home plate, which is a good feeling because we haven’t done it in a while like that, especially early in the game scoring six runs.” Hopefully the Cyclones can continue the performance they had Thursday night and carry that to Friday when they face the IronBirds again.
