College Fordham’s Defense and Kicking Game Leads To Victory Over Georgetown by Jason Cordner October 24, 2016 Without Their QB, Fordham Found a Way to Win The Fordham Rams answered the adversity bell and hanged on to beat the Georgetown Hoyas 17-14. Senior quarterback Kevin Anderson was suspended for one game for a violation of team rules, thrusting junior quarterback Luke Medlock into the starting role for the first time in his career. Lucky for Medlock, he still had Mr. Fordham, Chase Edmonds to rely on. Edmonds ran for 175 yards rushing on a career high, 37 carries. The weather was certainly a factor in the first half. The Rams had five fumbles (including bobbled snaps) and lost two, while the Hoyas had two and lost one. Fordham’s defense, meanwhile, looked the best it has all season. Georgetown was held to just 84 first half yards, with all of its 14 points coming off of pretty good field position. The 167 total yards of offense for Georgetown are the fewest for a Fordham opponent since the Rams held Columbia to 166 total yards in 2014 The Rams defense was as close to full strength as it has been in 2016, with junior linebacker Niko Thorpe and senior defensive lineman Manny Adeyeye taking the field for the first time this season — albeit in limited roles — and senior defensive lineman Justin Vaughn returning after leaving the Lafayette game with an injury two weeks ago. Luke Medlock had a decent game for a backup quarterback. Medlock threw for 95 yards, two touchdowns and had one interception. The offense was sluggish at times and much of that was because of Kevin Anderson being suspended for the game. With the win, Fordham improves to 5-2 overall, 2-0 in the Patriot League, while Georgetown falls to 3-4 overall, 0-2 in the conference. It was Fordham fourth straight win. Chase Edmonds Continues His Assault On Fordham’s Record Books Chase Edmonds, who carried a career-high 37 times for his 179 yards, brought his career total to 4,730 yards as the junior became the school’s career leading in rushing yards. He surpassed Kirwin Watson’s former mark of 4,617 yards, set from 2000-03. The Rams Are Closing In on The Patriot League Title In two weeks, Fordham will host Holly Cross at Yankee Stadium and by then the Patriot League title should be up for grabs or decided by then. Either way, the Rams are in the driver’s seat for that title. The Rams return to action on Saturday, October 29, as they travel to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, to face the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks in a Patriot League contest at 12:30 pm.
