Baseball Four Yankees Headed to 2018 MLB All-Star Game Judge, Severino, Chapman, Torres named to AL All-Star roster. by Gregg Snyder July 9, 2018 American and National League All-Star roster were announced Sunday and the New York Yankees will have four representatives in the game. The midsummer classic will be played July 17 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. Jury Votes Judge Into Starting Lineup Aaron Judge will make his second All-Star game appearance after being voted into the starting lineup. The star outfielder is tied for second in the Majors with 25 homers and has a .280 average, as well as a .971 OPS that ranks fifth in the AL. Judge won the 2017 Home Run Derby but has said he will not participate in the event this year. Yankees Ace – AL Starter? Judge may not be the only Yankee to start the game. Ace starter Luis Severino was named to the American League roster and could be chosen as the teams starting pitcher. Also receiving his second All-Star nod, Severino leads MLB with 14 wins. Overall, he is 14-2 and has allowed just 88 hits while striking out 143 in 123 1/3 innings. The AL is loaded with top starters and a case could be made for any one of them to start the game, but Severino is every bit deserving. Perennial NL Star Making First AL Appearance Veteran lefty-closer, Aroldis Chapman will make his first All-Star appearance in an American League uniform. He has previously appeared in the game as a representative of the Cincinnati Reds. Chapman has converted 24 of 25 save opportunities with a 1.42 ERA and a 15.6 K/9.0 IP ratio. He has dealt with tendinitis in his left knee this season so it will be interesting to see if he remains available for the AL. The Rookie Infielder Gleyber Torres hit the ground running since his call up earlier in the year. Arguably the AL Rookie of the Year favorite, Torres was named as a reserve on the AL roster. He currently has batted .294 with 10 doubles, a triple, 15 homers and 42 RBI in 63 games. Torres is currently on the DL with a strained hip, so he may not be available to play in the All-Star Game. Will There Be A fifth? Could the Yankees have a fifth representative in the All-Star Game? It’s possible as DH/OF Giancarlo Stanton is up for the 2018 Camping World MLB Final Vote. Stanton is hitting .267 with 21 homers and 51 RBI. The outfielder is a four-time All-Star in the National League and would be making his first AL appearance if voted in. Outfielders Andrew Benintendi of the Red Sox and Eddie Rosario of the Twins and infielders Jean Segura of the Mariners and Andrelton Simmons of the Angels are also up for the Final Vote.
