Boxing History in Atlantic City: Claressa Shields v. Christina Hammer to main event November 17 SHOWTIME event Both women will be fighting to become the Undisputed Middleweight Champion of the World by Daniel Yanofsky September 26, 2018 After years of hard work, thanks to SHOWTIME, female boxers are finally getting a true opportunity. Two of the most dominant female boxers today in Claressa Shields and Christina Hammer will face off to crown the Undisputed Middleweight Champion. They will main event the SHOWTIME BOXING: SPECIAL EDITION event, making the match all the more special. Atlantic City, New Jersey’s Adrian Phillips Theater inside Boardwalk Hall will host the event, scheduled to take place November 17. This highly-anticipated bout features a rising star in Shields (6-0) and a dominant veteran in Hammer (23-0). The former holds the WBC and WBO Middleweight belts. Hammer is the owner of the WBC and WBO Middleweight belts. Both fighters last fought in June in Michigan. The 23-year-old Shields beat Hanna Gabriel via unanimous decision, her fourth win with that result. A two-time gold medalist, Shields had the following to say about her fight and the journey to get there: “I’ve worked hard my whole life to overcome every obstacle, represent my country and win two Olympic gold medals, and win world championships in two weight divisions as a pro. I want to be part of the biggest fight in women’s boxing history, I want to be undisputed world middleweight champion, I want women’s boxing to reach new heights, and the only thing standing between me and the achievement of all those goals is Christina Hammer. I will defeat Hammer on November 17, and I will do it in a way that will leave no doubt who is the best in the world.” While she has respect for the young gun, Christina Hammer is not one to be taken lightly. In her last fight, Hammer defeated Tori Nelson via unanimous decision. She has ten KO wins, something to look into come November. Hammer had the following to say about Claressa: “I am beyond excited and motivated to fight Claressa. I am the best middleweight in the world and will make that point very clear when we get in the ring. It’s been my dream to fight in the biggest women’s fight of all time and raise women’s boxing to an all-time high. I will be crowned the undisputed middleweight queen on November 17.” The remainder of the card will be announced sometime soon. With history on the line, it would be hard for the fight not main event the show. A win by either of these boxers would make them the fifth fighter to win all the major titles in the four-belt era. The other four are Oleksandr Usyk, Terence Crawford, Jermain Taylor and Bernard Hopkins. Tickets for the event go on sale this Friday. You can buy tickets at the Boardwalk Hall box office or at Ticketmaster.com. Post Views: 1,225 The following two tabs change content below.BioLatest Posts Daniel Yanofsky Baseball Editor, Misc.
