Pro’s giving free horse racing tips

One of the great things about the horse racing industry is the passionate veterans who provide betting tips for horse racing to the many horse betting players across the world. Here is a look at some of the most prolific horse racing handicappers who are still major players after decades in the business.

During the industry’s biggest racing events like the Kentucky Derby and Breeders Cup the prestige brings in many visitors despite the fact they might not be experience horse players. To help these novice handicappers hit a race or two, the industry is filled with professional handicappers who like to provide free horse racing tips. In many cases, these professional handicappers provide free horse racing tips today in hopes of picking up paying customers tomorrow. Around the industry, these people are referred to as touts or prognosticators.

Through the 1980s, most handicappers used calculators and a racing form to come up with their picks. Like everything else in this world, technology soon changed how professional handicappers plied their trade. With new software programs and algorithms to assess fractional times and assign speed figures in just minutes, the face of handicappers changed from middle-aged guys with a cigar and racing form tucked in their back pocket to a younger group of computer whizzes who actually know very little about horses. They call this evolution.

For handicapping purists, there is no replacing of the racing form and hours of analysis. Here’s a tribute to a few of the old guard that still offer horse racing tips today based on the old school way of handicapping.

Bobby Zen – After earning an MBA and then spending many years honing his skills as a handicapper, Bobby finally went public around the turn of the century. While providing public handicapping information in the great Northwest, he began writing a series of books on handicapping. His first book titled “Bet To Win” was published in 2007, followed by “Lucky 13” in 2009 and “Trifecta” in 2012.

Bobby’s success with picking horses has been documented. His astounding results from 2011-2015 show consistent winning rates of 42%, 46%, 43%, 39% and 29%, respectively. Even more impressive is the fact he rarely lands on “odds-on” favorites. His contributions to the racing industry include writing for The Racing Biz and public appearance on ESPN as an analyst for the 2014 Kentucky Derby and on Sports Radio KJR as a guest host reporting on races from Emerald Downs. Bob Ike – After the cessation of the Baedeker Report, Bob Ike took over as one of the top professional handicappers on the Southern California circuit. After over 20 years covering the top race tracks in the area, Bob has become the face of many media productions related to picking horses. He currently hosts the Thoroughbred Los Angeles radio show on KLAA 830 AM on Saturday mornings. During the Del Mar summer and fall meets, Bob serves as one of the hosts for the live satellite show provided on track.

Bob is largely recognized as one of the top “trip” handicappers in the region. While he offers public picks for most of the Southern California tracks, horse players can purchase a membership that provides full-card picks and his best plays of each racing day.

Vic’s Picks – After 40-years of handicapping experience each, calling Vic and Ernie experienced handicappers would be a gross understatement. Even though both men rely heavily on the racing form for handicapping information, Vic developed a software program back in 1987 to help him analyze the information quickly and more efficiently. Much of the software’s handicapping focus is put on fractional times, which are used to identify where horses are expected to be during the race and at the finish.

Based on different membership packages, horse players are given access to the software’s pick for each race, plus the “Prime Bet” best bet of the day from each race track requested. Not only does Vic’s Picks lay claim to lots of winners, but they also claim to hit a lot of exotic wagers.

Michael Dempsey – Mike is the lead handicapper at “Turf N Sport.” Along with 30+ years of handicapping experience throughout the country, Mike has worked for TrackMaster/Equibase and created the Winners Circle Handicapping Syndicate, which was responsible for hitting a number of large pick-6 pools. Today, Mike works as a host for Down the Stretch Radio on ESPN 950 in Richmond Va. The show also appears as a webcast. On his show, he offers free horse racing tips for venues around the country. His elite picks are available by subscription or membership.
