Uncategorized Mike Piazza Loves NYC All The Way To Cooperstown!! by Staff Post July 23, 2016 It’s no secret; New Yorkers love former Met Mike Piazza and he loves them back! This weekend New Yorkers flooded Cooperstown, New York to celebrate Piazza’s induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame along side Ken Griffey Jr. The celebration kicked off on Saturday with a pre-ceremony press conference in Cooperstown. Both Griffey and Piazza spoke about what it took for them to get to the Hall of Fame, they also spoke about what Sunday was going to be like for the inductees. Piazza spoke about what it meant to him to play in New York. He described his time in the big apple as nothing short of, “Amazing.” He described what it was like playing in a big city with the New York Yankees as your big brother, “The one thing I love about Mets fans is that it’s tough being in the same town as the Yankees, you know, with obviously all their World Series and their accomplishments. But there are no better fans.” Piazza also described the honor he felt being the second Met to enter the National Baseball Hall of Fame, joining Hall of Famer Tom Seaver. The soon to be Hall of Famer, was drafted in 1988 by the Los Angeles Dodgers. It was a favor from Tommy Lasorda originally paid to Piazza’s father. Mike will be the lowest-drafted player (62nd round) to ever enter Hall of Fame. He has made twelve All-Star appearances, received the Silver Slugger Award ten times, hit 427 home runs, 1,335 RBI’s, and maintained a .308 batting average during his sixteen seasons in Major League Baseball.
