A “happy recap” this week on Bump N’ Run as one local team finally won a game and the other local played hard but just came up short. Let’s get to it.

Jets Lose Heartbreaker To Patriots At MetLife

You can say this; the Jets will play hard this season. In Sunday’s 24-17 loss to New England, Gang Green had the Patriots on the ropes at numerous points in the game. In the end, a blown touchdown call and Rob Gronkowski spelled doom for the Jets, who moved to 3-3 on the season. Josh McCown continues to be a pleasant surprise for most games, but you see why he has played on 39 teams in his career at other various points in games.  

The Jets’ game did show two significant things:

1. The Jets front line cannot get pressure on the quarterback at all. With Leonard Williams, Steve McLendon and Muhammad Wilkerson, you assume that the Jets would have 10-12 sacks at this point in the season. They only have seven sacks through six games. Wilkerson, who is a $14.7 million cap hit for the team, has zero sacks. No wonder why rumors have the team giving up on him after the season.
2. Tom Brady may be on the decline this season. It seems as if he is a tad late on throws and not as quick eluding tackles. The time to strike for the Jets to get back into the AFC East conversation could be now.

Overall the Jets are a young team playing with pride. That is all you can ask for if you are Todd Bowles and Mike Maccagnan. The Jets visit the Dolphins on Sunday.

Giants Win Their First Game. YAY.

Without their top four wide receivers, their starting defensive end and cornerback, the Giants rolled into thin air of Denver and defeated the Broncos, 23-10. Orleans Darkwa ran for 117 yards in a game that featured Mike Sullivan calling the offensive plays as opposed to Ben McAdoo.

While it does not seem like a big deal, McAdoo giving up play-calling duties was huge. Sullivan called an almost perfect game, using the run to establish control and not putting Eli Manning in impossible situations. Manning does not have to throw the ball 56 times for the Giants to win games. Sullivan’s playcalling and the team’s performance proved that. However, as Giants’ fans celebrate, there is a problem looming. The Seattle Seahawks come to New Jersey on Sunday.

Moving The Chains

• Who are the geniuses at ESPN who programmed the Titans vs. Colts on Monday Night Football? They may as well put on Liberty vs. UC Davis instead.
• Quick shoutout to my best friend Xavier who is a die-hard 49ers fan. Yeah, he is a masochist because I am pretty sure San Francisco will not be competitive for years to come. C.J. Beathard? C’mon man.
• In college football, we had our first major shakeup after Clemson, Washington and Washington State all lost. Penn State moves up to No. 2, and we now have a college football season that is shaping up to be insanely entertaining as we progress through the fall.
• Major kudos to The College of New Jersey who picked up their first win of the season after defeating Rowan on the road. Trevor Osler threw three touchdowns and career-high 340 yards in the win. Rowan hosts Kean at home on Saturday on homecoming. 
• Finally, the NFL and the Players Association had a “productive” conversation during a meeting between the sides this week. I have no idea what “productive” means but it is about time that the NFL begin the process to become more progressive. A league like the NBA is in tune with what the players feel and need. Meanwhile, the NFL is still trying to rule with an iron fist. When 70 percent of your league is African-American, you should not treat your players like field hands. I am interested to see what happens between the two sides.
