Katie Taylor to make her MSG debut in December

The pride of Ireland will look for her twelfth pro win in a row.

One of the top female boxers in the world will look to make a major statement under the bright lights of New York City. Katie Taylor will defend her IBF and WBA World Lightweight titles against Eva Wahlstrom on December 15. She will be joining the Canelo Alvarez v. Rocky Fielding card inside Madison Square Garden.

Taylor (11-0), a former Olympic gold medalist, will look to successfully defend her belts for the third time. She won the WBA Title back in 2017 in Whales against Anahi Sanchez and won the IBF Title against Victoria Bustos in April of this year. That fight took place inside the Barclays Center. Under the DAZN and Matchroom Boxing brand, Katie is looking to showcase her skills all over the world. A potential fight against Amanda Serrano could be on the horizon with a win.

“I’ve been lucky enough to fight in some iconic venues since turning pro two years ago but I’m not sure there’s any more iconic in a boxing sense than Madison Square Garden,” Katie stated. “I think every fighter dreams about stepping in the ring there and I’m no different. To get the opportunity to defend my World titles there is really very exciting.”

Wahlstrom (22-0-1) has held gold before. A Finnish reality star, she has held the WBC Super-Featherweight Title, back in 2015. She has won 19 fights via decision. The two have some history together, as they fought when they were both amateurs 14 years ago. This time around, both established fighters will look to put it all on the line inside MSG.

“I lost to Katie few times in amateur days but I am sure I won her respect anyway,” Wahlstrom stated. “Now in a 10-round pro fight, it will be totally different game with all new avenues to avenge those defeats.

Canelo v. Fielding and Taylor v. Wahlstrom can be viewed exclusively on the DAZN app. Tickets are available at the MSG box office and at Ticketmaster.com.
