College Kean Football season opener moved to Sunday by Lou Monaco September 3, 2016 Wait one more day. Today’s Kean University football season opener at Christopher Newport in Newport News, Virginia has been moved to Sunday, Sept 4 due to heavy rain and high winds forecast for Saturday from Tropical Storm Hermine. Scheduled kickoff Sunday at POMOCO Stadium will be 1 p.m. The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) battle will be the first of ten regular-season games for both teams. Kean (8-3) captured the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Presidents Bowl Championship last season, its fourth overall in program history and first since 2009, defeating Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 24-6. Christopher Newport (4-6) will be playing its first Sunday game in the 16-year history of the school.
