Boxing Long Island’s Cletus “The Hebrew Hammer” Seldin beats Roberto Ortiz via KO Seldin is moving up in the boxing world, and may be on his way to a title fight. by Daniel Yanofsky November 12, 2017 It didn’t take long for “The Hebrew Hammer” to show why he is boxing’s dominant fighter. Cletus Seldin walked into The Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum last night and completely annihilated Roberto Ortiz during Brooklyn Boxing’s premier event on HBO. Seldin (21-0) continued to pound his way into title contention, while showing millions of fans that old school boxing is still cool. The Long Island crowd was ready for a show right when “Real American”, Seldin’s theme, blasted throughout the arena. Fans were chanting “Hammer” even before the opening bell could ring. Cletus is known for fighting inside the Paramount Theater in Huntington. This fight was a major advancement for a fighter like “The Hebrew Hammer”. It only took three rounds for Seldin to make a statement, as he outpaced and outboxed Ortiz (35-2-2) right out the gate. Ortiz was knocked off of his feet in the first round, as Seldin was playing the aggressor early. By the second round, Seldin was just toying with his opponent, busting him open above the eye and laying into him enough to break his nose. The referee in charge had to stop the fight at 2:43 in the third round once it looked like Ortiz sustained enough damage. It was a defensive elbow to the face by Seldin that put on the finishing touches to an incredible performance. httpss://twitter.com/HBOboxing/status/929749139008532480 The 31-year old scored the 17th knockout of his career. After grading his fight an “A”, Cletus gave himself a new nickname, proclaiming himself the wrecking machine from Long Island. His left hook is part of his arsenal and he showed how deadly it was right away. Up next? While a title fight is imminent, a bout against Mikey Garcia (37-0) might finally open a few eyes. The welterweight division is tough but with his talent it is also wide open for Seldin to take over. Long Island’s favorite son continues to mow down the competition. With his old school approach and fan support, Cletus is looking for that opportunity sooner rather than later. After dominating under the bright lights thanks to HBO, he may get his wish.
