Coming off a momentous win over NYCFC and the hoisting of an NASL Spring Season Title, the New York Cosmos are preparing for their Round of 16 U.S. Open Cup matchup with the New York Red Bulls on July 1.  On June 17, the Cosmos defeated NYCFC in penalty kicks by a score of 2(4) – 2(3).  The Cosmos are turning heads with their recent dominance.

The Red Bulls of the MLS must be on their toes in anticipation of their quickly approaching matchup with the recently unbeatable Cosmos.  The derby between the Cosmos and the Red Bulls has a short history.  In the fourth round of the 2014 U.S. Open Cup, the Cosmos defeated the Red Bulls, 3-0.

Looking even further ahead, the Cosmos are set to begin their NASL Fall Season at home against the Indy Eleven on July 5.  The Cosmic domination of the NASL has been the headline as of late.  The Cosmos did not lose a single NASL Spring Season game in 2015.  The Cosmos look to continue their brilliance as they head into their upcoming matches.

Hunter Gorskie of the Cosmos explained the meaning of a U.S. Open Cup run: “Obviously for us [Cosmos], there’s a little extra importance in playing an MLS side.  It gives us a chance to go out and really prove that we are a talented team and a force to be reckoned with.”  Gorskie continued, “I have tremendous confidence in our guys and what we have done.”

Get ready for the Cosmos’ green, blue, and white to stampede into the land of the Red Bulls.  Perhaps, fans will be given a better sense if the Cosmos are the best team in New York.
