Marist Wins in OT Against Morehead State

Marist traveled to Morehead State this past weekend for the third straight PFL game of the season. Marist was able to beat PFL rival Morehead State in overtime with a final score of 44-41. The win would be Marist’s third straight win all against PFL conference teams and this win marks the first time in program history that Marist is 3-0 in the PFL conference.

A couple of Red Foxes would tie single-game program records in this game as quarterback Mike White (Jr.) would throw five touchdown’s and wide receiver Juston Christian (Jr.) would record three receiving touchdowns on the day. White finished the game with 377 passing yards with a 36-yard score on the ground and Christian would bottom out the great offensive play by catching six passes for 217 yards for the Red Foxes. The Red Fox defense would record three interceptions and right tackles for loss in this game too.

Sophomore linebacker Willie Barrett led Marist with 11 tackles and a forced fumble and defensive end Peter Delatour (Fr.) had three tackles for loss and one sack. Marist would win this game by White finding Christian in the end zone for a 32-yard touchdown pass, but before that play this game consisted up three ties and three lead changes. The first four drives in the game went for touchdowns. Marist would score the only score in the second quarter which was a 24-yard field goal by kicker Mike Maccarone (Sr.) which would give the Red Foxes their first lead at 17-14. The second quarter would end as safety Wes Beans intercepted in the end zone to preserve the lead for Marist going into halftime.

White had two touchdowns in the third quarter one to Lawrence Dickens (Fr.) and his second went to Christian (Jr.) to put Marist up 31-20 the largest lead of the game. Morehead State would answer with a 15-yard rushing touchdown by Morehead State quarterback Austin Gahafer. Morehead State would then secure the two-point conversion to cut the Marist deficit to 31-28 heading into the fourth quarter.

Marist would add another touchdown in the opening of the fourth quarter as White would find senior wide out Joe Jordan for a 14-yard touchdown pass which put Marist up 38-28. On the next Marist drive they would go three and out only erasing 15-secs off of the clock and a 23-yard punt return would give Morehead State good field position to start their drive. Morehead State would force overtime by driving down to the Marist 15-yard line and bolted a 33-yard field goal to tie the game at 38-38.

Mike White would earn PFL Offensive Player of The Week honors after a five touchdown pass performance. Marist gets back to .500 at 3-3 overall, 3-0 in PFL and Morehead State drops to 2-5 overall, 1-3 in PFL. This win was Marist’s first road overtime victory in program history and their first overtime win since 2007. Marist is 3-4 all time in overtime in program history.

Next up: The Red Foxes will return home to take on Davidson as a part of their homecoming weekend on Oct. 22 kickoff is set for 12pm.
