Tennis Nadal equals Vilas record, Wins in Barcelona by Staff Post April 26, 2016 It is official, there is no better player to have ever played Tennis on a clay court than Rafael Nadal. The victory has seen Nadal’s betting odds at the French Open have been slashed and he is now one of the favorite to lift the trophy in Paris. The Spaniard has just managed to equal a long-standing record of 49 titles on clay-court held by Guillermo Vilas. He managed to make this by beating Kei Nishikori in the final of the Barcelona Open. The final of the Barcelona Open was an exciting affair. Nadel faced the Kei Nishikori, who is the defending champion and has won it for the last two years. Nadal was on top form, and he managed to claim his Ninth Open in Barcelona by winning 6-4, 7-5. The result made him level for the clay-court titles and many people are making French Open tennis predictions that he will be the outright record holder by winning the tournament in Paris. Nadal’s form so far this year has improved considerably, and he looks like he is getting back to his best. He has 14 Grand Slam titles to his name. He is now one of the French open betting odds favourite to added another to his impressive list of achievements in the sport. After winning the Barcelona Open and equaling the clay-court record, Nadal said ‘I’m very happy because besides this being one of the most prestigious tournaments that I have won, this is another week that I am playing very well. These have been two fantastic weeks, weeks I have striven for a long time.’ The records keep on tumbling for Nadal and in winning the Barcelona Open for the ninth time, he holds the record. It is not the only competition he is leading the pack with. The player from Spain is also the record holder for both the French Open along with Monte Carlo. Nadal is ranked fifth in the world for all types of surfaces but on clay there is no doubt he in number one. His opponent he was playing in the Barcelona final is ranked sixth, but you could see the huge difference in class when they clashed. Speaking about his opponent, he said ‘I was playing against the No. 6 player in the world, and if you don’t play at your best you aren’t going to win,’ It was the 69th title that Nadal has won in his career and the 101st final that he has reached. Many pundits had started to write him off as a player in decline but he has proved everybody wrong and looks like he is getting back to top form. If he can continue to keep up this level, most will be making French Open tennis predictions that he will be victorious in Paris. If Nadal can stay injury free for the next couple of seasons, the records will continue to fall. It is hard to see any player over the next couple of decades managing to do what the Spaniard has. The French Open looks like it is going to be a two-horse race between Nadal and Djokovic. It is going to be very exciting to see which player manages to come out on top in Paris.
