Baseball Phillies Prospect Report: Ben Brown by Eli Fishman August 12, 2018 Clearwater, FL – One of the most promising under the radar pitchers in baseball is the Philadelphia Phillies Ben Brown. The 18-year-old right-handed pitcher currently pitching for the Rookie League GCL Phillies West. Ben was drafted in the 33rd round out of Ward Melville High School in upstate New York as a 17-year-old. The 6’6 starter who worked as a reliever in his pro debut immediately came in and shut hitters down. Brown throws a four as well as a two-seam fastball, changeup and a curve, which is just about as dirty as it gets. Ben tells me he is specifically working on his change-up but as of right now that spike curveball is the out-pitch of choice. Brown appeared in 10 games out of the pen for the GCL Phillies last season, and this year he is excelling as a starter. The Phillies prospect is 3-2 with a 2.95 era in 7 starts, opponents are also hitting .219 off him and he has struck out 59 in 29 ⅓ innings this season. “I just try to stay level headed while I pitch” “Obviously there’s gonna be rough days and there’s gonna be good days. Hopefully, we can just have more of those good days” Being a late round pick, Ben told me he loves to pitch knowing that he has got the chance to impress someone and earn his place. Brown is especially thankful to the Phillies for drafting him “I was a late round guy, they gave me an opportunity and said here come play and its just been a blessing ever since” His coach Roly De Armas tells me, “This kids a future big leaguer” Brown is a big competitor and his motto is: “get the next of my next outing” Post Views: 2,409 The following two tabs change content below.BioLatest Posts Eli Fishman Eli Fishman is a 16-year old college and minor league baseball writer for Double G Sports.
