Boxing Rumble in the New York Jungle! Canelo Alvarez to make his MSG debut against Rocky Fielding in December Alvarez’s last two bouts have been against GGG, winning the second fight via majority decision by Daniel Yanofsky October 8, 2018 Although Las Vegas has become the home of boxing, New York City at one point held host to some of the greats. It may have taken awhile, but Canelo Alvarez will finally make his way to the city that never sleeps. He will be looking to add another belt to his impressive collection as he faces Rocky Fielding for his WBA Super Middleweight Championship on December 15. Hosted by Matchroom Boxing, this bout will pit two of boxing’s best. Via Twitter translater, Alvarez had the following to say about the announcement: I’m very excited to announce my next fight. Next December 15th at the New York MSG. Taking a big challenge more in my career and representing the WBC as 160 lbs champion now I will fight for the world title for the 168 lbs vs Rocky fielding current WBA champion! Fielding had a message of his own: https://twitter.com/Rocky87Fielding/status/1048304938131107840 This fight is important, especially if you are a Canelo fan. Just remember where we were a few months back. Alvarez (50-1-2) is coming off of a majority decision win over Gennady Golovkin back in September. That was a rematch from the controversial draw they had back in 2017 and was for GGG’s unified middleweight championships. Before both GGG bouts, Alvarez was on a seven-fight win streak. This fight may also be the last HBO related event. The company announced it will no longer affiliate itself with boxing. Fielding (27-1) may not be as big of a name as GGG, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a draw. He won 21 straight fights before losing to Callum Smith in 2015 due to knockout. “Rocky from Stocky” redeemed himself with a six-fight win streak, his last bout being a TKO win for the WBA Super-Middleweight Title against Tyron Zeuge. Canelo may be the clear favorite, but that won’t stop him from working as hard as he would for any other fight. This could be a bout that makes Fielding. On the other side, this bout could prepare Canelo for the next big matchup of his career.
