(via Top Rank) Boxing Tyson Fury set to face Tom Schwartz in his Top Rank debut This will be Fury’s first fight under the Top Rank name, and first fight in Las Vegas. by Daniel Yanofsky April 8, 2019 It appears it will be a while before we see Tyson Fury face off against Deontay Wilder again. The same could be said for an Anthony Joshua clash. In Fury’s first fight with ESPN’s Top Rank, the lineal heavyweight champion will face Tom Schwarz on June 15th inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. “I’m absolutely delighted to be boxing in Las Vegas on ESPN+. I always said I will never go to Vegas until I box there and now I finally am,” Fury stated. “I can’t wait to put on a boxing master class for all my fans. The British and Irish fans will invade Vegas. I can’t wait!” Signing with Top Rank and ESPN at the last second, Fury (27-0-1) dropped a bombshell on the boxing world. We were extremely close to getting the anticipated rematch after the epic clash between him and Wilder. The latter knocked Fury down twice but “The Gypsy King” would not quit. The fight ended up being a split decision draw and the rematch was expected to create even further box office buzz. While some are dismissing this fight right away due to its lack of appeal, there is something to be said about Fury’s opponent. Schwartz (24-0) is a WBO Inter-Continental Champion with 16 wins via knockout. Set to make his United States debut, the German star is one of the hungriest athletes in the heavyweight division at age 24. “While I appreciate Tyson as a great fighter and a sportsman, I am young, ambitious and in the top of the world rankings,” Schwartz stated. “I‘ve won 24 fights, I’ve got nothing to lose, and my 25th victory will come against Fury.” Schwartz is ranked number two in the world by the WBO and ninth by the IBF. This is his first major test, and he doesn’t appear to fear the man that no longer fears death in Fury. For Schwartz, this is a fight to prove he is the very best, which can help sway people away from the narrative that this fight doesn’t sound sexy enough. There is now some pressure on Fury to come out on top and eventually get back on track. While there are a plethora of heavyweight contenders at Top Rank, the end goal of a superfight is always on his mind. With Joshua on DAZN, Wilder a free agent and Fury on Top Rank, the boxing world has never been so divided.
