Other Sports Thunder Wins Seventh Straight Game! by Staff Post May 27, 2011 The Trenton Thunder (27-18) swept the Reading Phillies (24-21) in Reading with a 3-1 victory at First Energy Stadium. Thunder pitcher Craig Heyer threw for six innings throwing scoreless ball. Jose Pirela homered for the first time as a member of the Thunder. The Thunder also swept back to back series. The Thunder started off early when Jose Pirela smoked a ball over the Left Field fences to give the Thunder an early one run lead. The homerun was also Pirela’s first homerun in double-A baseball. With a large home attendance of a little over 8,000 looking on in the fifth inning, Pirela got on base again for the Thunder and Bradley Suttle followed with a triple into the right center field gap. The Thunder added an insurance run in the sixth inning when they scored on a bases loaded walk to increase their lead to 3-0. Craig Heyer dominated the Reading Phils allowing only two hits over the six innings he pitched. Heyer (4-2 , 2.74) who easily posted his best performance of the season received fine fielding help as the Thunder provided him with three straight inning ending double plays. Reading whimpered a little when they loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth and scoring a run on single but Josh Schimdt came in to douse the flames and earn his fourth save of the season.
