E-Sports Natus Vincere and Xiao Hari Shines at ESL One New York Championship by Jason Cordner October 6, 2016 (esportstakeover.co.uk) Natus Vincere Wins ESL One New York Championship ESL One invaded the Barclays Center with one of the best cards in professional tournament Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO). ESL One New York 2016 featured three of the world’s best teams and a prize pool of $250,000. The atmosphere was electric the entire weekend. Fans were cheering on their gaming heroes match after match, all weekend long. The format of the tournament used was the Swiss system, matching teams up on the same number of wins and losses, with teams being eliminated after they lose three total maps. The event was delayed significantly throughout the day, finishing late into the night on Sunday October 2nd. All of the semifinalists, Team Liquid, Virtus.pro, Natus Vincere and SK Gaming, gave it their all in the battle for the ESL One trophy delivering amazing plays and edge-of-your-seat action. Each semifinal match went the distance setting up a Virtus.pro vs Natus Vincere finals. Natus Vincere withstand a grueling match up to claimed the ESL One New York championship. VP was the old reliable team with a roster that’s been together for two years with excellent and consistent results and Na’Vi, the team that added troubled superstar talent Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev, was a team that needed to jell. After the matchup, many wondered if the long hard fought battle with overall favorite SK Gaming , in the semifinals, might of taken a toll on Virtus.pro. Natus Vincere pulled out the win in overtime. Natus Vincere come back from 1-0 down against the Polish of Virtus Pro after losing Cobblestone 3-16, before winning Train 16-8 and Mirage 19-17. Xiao Hai Won The Inaugural Street Fighter V Tournament XiaoHai defeated Momochi Yusuke in the grand final of the Brooklyn Beatdown at ESL One New York on Sunday night. For his efforts, XiaoHai took home the top prize of $30,000 and cemented his status as one of the favorites to win the Capcom Cup in December. Zeng “XiaoHai” Zhuojun had to endure a lengthy delay before he could play his high-stakes championship set on Sunday. But it was well worth the wait. The grand final was scheduled to begin at 6pm local time but was delayed for over two and a half hours. The delay was largely due to the semifinals of the event’s Counter Strike: Global Offensive tournament running much longer than expected. XiaoHai entered the grand final from the winners’ side of the bracket, but Momochi made quick work of that advantage with a dominant 3-0 win in the first set. Momochi won the first game of the second and decisive set, but XiaoHai was able to stop the bleeding and battle back to win the final set 3-2. In China, Xiao Hai doesn’t have many opportunities to play Street Fighter. There isn’t a wide range of competition, and online play really isn’t an option. Between now and the South East Asia Major in Singapore next week, Xiao Hai wants to prepare all he can for December’s Catacomb Cup championship.
