Marist Snaps Four-Game Winning Streak after 27-3 Loss to San Diego

Marist hosted first place San Diego this past Saturday afternoon and possibly one of the most important games of the season for both teams as first place in the PFL was on the line. San Diego came in to this game with the best record in the conference and on a tear so far this season. Marist came into this game with success so far this season in the PFL conference. Before the game, fans were treated to a free Jason Myers bobblehead as well as a autograph session with Myer’s too on Jason Myer’s bobblehead day. With first place in the balance the Red Foxes 4-game win streak was snapped as San Diego keeps rolling and beat Marist 27-3.

San Diego controlled much of the game early on both on offense and defense as they capped a 15 play, 75 yard drive with a nine yard touchdown to tight end Ross Dwelley (Jr.)  to start the game. Marist had a chance to even the score on their drive after driving all the way down the field to the San Diego one yard line, but running back Marcellus Calhoun (Jr.) would lose a fumble on fourth down. The only score that the Red Foxes would get in this game was a 27-yard field goal by Mike Maccarone (Sr.) right before the half.

Mike White (Jr.) was 12 for 34 with 175 yards passing. White reached 2,000 yards passing for the season early in the first half in this game. This is the second straight season that White has reached the 2,000 yards passing plateau. He would also be the leader in rushing yards for the Red Foxes with 22-yards on the ground in this loss to San Diego. The standout player for the Toreros was running back Jonah Hodges (Sr.) as he ran for 175 yards in 33 attempts with 2 touchdowns. Both touchdowns for Hodges would come in the second half which iced the game for San Diego. San Diego dominated this game and played a complete game of football, but Marist fought throughout just could not make much of their opportunities early on.

Marist Safety Wesley Beans would again be a standout on the Red Fox defense as he had right tackles, a interception, and a fumble recovery in this game. The interception for Beans would be his sixth on the year and his fourth straight game with a pick. The Toreros had 423 total yards of offense and were great on converting on third downs as they were 12 of 19 on third down. San Diego would also have a red zone percentage of 100% as they cashed in on all I’ve red zone possessions. Marist had 201 yard of total offense and were 3 of 12 on third down situations. This would be the difference in the game for Marist as they could not stop San Diego in the red zone, but still had a fighting chance up until the fourth quarter in this game.

Marist would fall to 4-4 overall, 4-1 in PFL. San Diego would improve to 7-1 overall, 6-0 in PFL. Marist next will be back on the road as they head to Stetson for another PFL game with kickoff set for 2 P.M.
