Baseball Junior Soto Powers Staten Island Yankees To Win by Arlenis J. Pena July 12, 2018 The Staten Island Yankees continue to spice up their season. On Wednesday night they took the first game of a three series game against Mahoning Valley. Juan De Paula started the game for the Yankees, he pitched five innings of scoreless baseball in which he allowed only two hits and walked two, but came out without decision. The win went to Drew Finley, who came into the game in the sixth inning and allowed a run, walked one and struck out four. Daniel Alvarez who last season served as a member of the starting rotation for the Staten Island Yankees recorded his first save of the season, he struck out five, gave up a hit and a walk and allowed one run. Besides the strong performance by the pitching staff, right fielder Junior Soto gave the fans something to cheer about. The Dominican native went 3-4 with two homers, his 3rd and 4rd of the season. With this win the Staten Island Yankees have improved their record to 8-2 in the month of July placing them in a tie with Brooklyn and Aberdeen with a 12-13 record on the season. Nolan Martinez is set to take the ball for the Yankees in the second game of the series, the game is set to start at 7:05 PM, as the Yankees host a throwback day!
