Horse Racing Author of ‘Life with Gritters and Gamblers’ John Perrotta at Monmouth Park by Judythe Ann Michelle May 16, 2015 Monmouth Park Numbers It’s Race Day and all eyes will be on the Preakness Stakes at Post time 6:18 pm when American Pharoah, Dortmund, Mr. Z., and others will be ready to race at Pimlico Race Course, in Baltimore. For those who are going to enjoy watching the race, at Monmouth Park, they are able to get a chance to meet author John Perrotta, whose quest to understand, “Who are we betting?” and “Where are we eating?” prompted him to write the book, “Life with Gritters and Gamblers.” Perrotta grew up just outside of Monmouth Park, and has a passion for racing, which stems from days when his father, a New Jersey doctor brought his only son to the races at Monmouth Park, when John was just a boy. Perrotta attended the University of Miami, and obtained a degree in philosophy, and has worked as a newspaper reporter. His greatest love though is to be around the track. He’s worked various jobs and ultimately landed a job where he helped trainer John Forbes build a foundation at his stable on the Jersey/Mid-Atlantic circuit. Perrotta was one of the first professional racing managers in the United States. Anyone who loves racing will likely enjoy reading about Perrotta’s journey and if by chance you happen to be at Monmouth Park today, you might want to ask him who he’s betting, and where he’s eating? No doubt, he’ll have a favorite in the Preakness Stakes, and will find lots to choose from as respects to getting some good grub, while at Monmouth! Enjoy the races!
