Boxing Boxing is king? Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing announce a $1 billion partnership with the Perfrom Group for America-based programming A new era has begun for boxing, and Eddie Hearn is the evil genius behind it by Daniel Yanofsky May 10, 2018 Over the years, boxing has made its way back into the limelight, whether with super fights like Canelo Alvarez v. GGG or money fights like Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. Several promotions have made an impact in the world of boxing, both good and bad, like HBO and Showtime. One promotion is looking to make the next step in the evolution of boxing. Matchroom Boxing, who represent the likes of Anthony Joshua, Ryan Burnett, Katie Taylor and Daniel Jacobs, just made the deal of a lifetime with the Perform Group. In a press conference earlier today, promotor and Managing Director of Matchroom Boxing Eddie Hearn announced a $1 billion partnership with Perform for over eight years to livestream boxing events in the United States. The deal is for eight years and begins at the end of June. httpss://twitter.com/EddieHearn/status/994668009590591490 Fans will be able to watch all events, including the 16 America-based events, on the DAZN streaming service. It truly is a special time to be a boxing fan. For years, Matchroom has made its name in the boxing world by promoting the best fighters out there. They have also created enemies in the process, increasing competition. In the end, it is a good thing for the sport in order to stay afloat. In a press release, Hearn stated: “This is a historic moment for Matchroom and the sport of boxing. Since our expansion to the US, we have been looking for a partner that shares our vision and that can give us the volume of dates and rights fees required to build the strongest stable in world boxing and take it to a new level… America – we have well and truly arrived, let the fun begin!” In an exclusive interview with Sporting News, Hearn stated he is looking to allow fighters to compete whenever they want. Instead of a limited amount of time, he is looking to expose young fighters for the better and give top fighters their moment of glory on an extended basis. With that goal in mind, Hearn is looking to pay fighters more than what others think they are worth. That will hopefully bring people into the fold who don’t have a promoter. Deontay Wilder and Jermall Charlo are just examples of those valuable fighters up for grabs. In the end, Eddie Hearn will be considered one of the boldest promoters of all time with this move. It is a true invasion into a U.S. market once considered untouchable. All eyes are on boxing for the first time in a while, and Hearn is taking advantage of that very fact.
