MMA Cerrone vs. Lawler confirmed for UFC 205 at MSG by Kristine Haugsjaa September 7, 2016 Photo Credit: Sherdog.com With fight fans anxiously waiting at the edge of their seats, the Ultimate Fighting Champion have begun to confirm bouts for the historical New York fight card starting with a fan favorite welterweight war between former UFC Welterweight Champion “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler and former UFC Lightweight title contender and welterweight newcomer Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. UFC President Dana White confirmed the news Wednesday morning to CBS Radio’s Anthony Lima. “Cowboy” made the jump to the 170-pound division after falling short at his 155-pound title shot against former Lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos in December. Since joining the welterweights Cerrone has been tearing through the lower ranks of the division, earning himself a #7 spot following his dominate victory over Rick Story at UFC 202. Lawler, the #1 Welterweight contender, is known for his ‘Fight of the Night’ and ‘Fight of the Year’ performances during his title reign, which came to a sudden end after losing to current Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley at UFC 201 in July. UFC 205, which takes place at the Madison Square Garden on November 12th, is the first mixed martial arts event to take place in New York after its legalization earlier this year. As we approach the inaugural event, it seems every MMA fighter (on the UFC roster or not) have been punching and kicking their way to earn a spot on the official fight card. Rumored match ups also the works include Long Island UFC Lightweight Al Iaquinta vs. Thiago Alves, former UFC Middleweight champion Chris Weidman vs. Yoel Romero and UFC Middleweight Tim Kennedy vs. former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans.
