The former San Francisco 49ers second iteration of his Nike Icon Jersey sold out “in less than a minute.” Nike confirmed the news to CNN. The Colin Kaepernick Icon Jersey 2.0 went up for sale on Thursday for $150 a piece. That same day, Kaepernick wrote a post on Instagram sharing an image of the all-black jersey itself, complete with his last name and number seven on the back. In the caption he stated, “Four years ago, I took a knee to protest against systemic racism and social injustice. It was that day that the number on my jersey would come to represent something greater than football, something greater than me.” View this post on Instagram Four years ago, I took a knee to protest against systemic racism and social injustice. It was that day that the number on my jersey would come to represent something greater than football, something greater than me. Since then, the number 7 jersey has become a symbol for advancing the liberation and well-being of Black & Brown communities. Thank you for staying True. #TrueTo7 A post shared by colin kaepernick (@kaepernick7) on Sep 17, 2020 at 6:59am PDT The caption continues, “Since then, the number 7 jersey has become a symbol for advancing the liberation and well-being of Black & Brown communities. Thank you for staying True.” It’s reported that the Colin Kaepernick Icon Jersey 1.0 also sold out in 2019, albeit within 10 hours. The football star’s black-on-black Icon tee, released in 2018, was also a massive hit, selling out in just a few hours. As previously reported, Kaepernick is making an appearance in the Madden NFL 21 video game. He has not been a playable character in a Madden NFL game since 2016. That was the same year in which the 32-year-old made headlines for sitting, and then kneeling, during the national anthem as a form of protest against police brutality and social injustice against minorities in America. Madden NFL 21 initial release date was on August 28. Colin Kaepernick remains unsigned at the start of the 2020 NFL season.
