Contender time? Kownacki to face Arreola in an August heavyweight bout in Brooklyn

While everyone is talking about Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury, Adam Kownacki continues to wait for his opportunity to shine. The Polish star will get a chance to show fans around the world he belongs when he faces off against Chris Arreola. The fight is set for August 3rd inside the Barclays Center.

One of the fastest-rising heavyweights in boxing, Kownacki (19-0) last fought in January, knocking out Gerald Washington in round two. He returns to the Barclays Center in his home of Brooklyn for the fourth straight fight. He has fought inside that arena eight times and has fought in New York thirteen times. Kownacki already has 15 wins via KO.

“I’m excited to be back in the ring and back at home in Barclays Center, live on FOX and FOX Deportes,” said Kownacki. “Fighting Chris Arreola will be another step on my journey to become a world champion. It will be a Polish-Mexican War that will bring fireworks to Brooklyn. Make sure you’re there in Brooklyn or watching in primetime!”

Arreola (38-5-1, 2 NC) is on a two-fight win streak, gaining momentum after losing to Wilder back in 2016. A former heavyweight title contender, he must go through Kownacki in order to be truly considered on the long list of title contenders in the heavyweight division.

“I can’t wait to step into the ring on August 3 and show everyone I’m still one of the best heavyweights in the world,” said Arreola. “I feel rejuvenated and ready to upset Adam Kownacki in front of his fans. He better be ready, because I’m going to bring it to him like he’s never seen before. This is going to be a war and I will leave with my hand raised.”

Also scheduled on the August 3rd card will be Andre Berto returning to New York to face Miguel Cruz and Marcus Browne facing off against Jean Pascal.
