Basketball Early Season NBA Trends Alert by Guest November 4, 2016 NBA handicapping professional Ross Benjamin highlight’s some recent and highly successful team trends. It’s always intriguing to keep an eye on these precise situations at the onset of a NBA season. It certainly can be very helpful when making NBA picks against the spread. Celtics Love Fast Tempo Opponents The Boston Celtics have adapted well to any pace its opponents prefer in recent years. Nevertheless, when they have a dance partner willing to embark in a fast tempo type of game, Boston has been a covering machine. Case in point, during the past 3 seasons, when NBA odds and Celtics games show a total of 210.0 or more, Boston has gone a very profitable 29-14 ATS (67.4%), and that includes a superb 9-2 ATS if they’re an away underdog. High Scoring Divisional Games for Timberwolves There’s something about Minnesota facing Southwest Division teams that’s produced high scoring and entertaining games. Since the start of last season, Minnesota is 17-3 over the total in those contests. As a matter of fact, as of 1/13/2016, they’re 14-1 over the total in that role, and a perfect 9-0 if those were away games. Following this specific team trend when making NBA picks against the spread has definitely been a moneymaking venture. Lowly 76ers Cash Cows in Non-Conference Games This is one of the more mystifying recent team trends I’ve come across. Since last season began, Philadelphia is a pathetic 3-49 versus fellow Eastern Conference teams, and went a miserable 16-36 ATS (30.7%) in those contests. Nevertheless, when they’ve played Western Conference opponents over that same course of time, Philadelphia is a remarkable 23-8 ATS (74.2%). Those Eastern/Western Conference splits are something worth factoring in when making NBA picks against the spread. Pistons Home Favorite versus Home Underdog Disparity You may be surprised to know, since 11/25/2015, the Detroit Pistons have gone a superb 19-7 ATS as a home favorite. Throughout that identical course of time, they were also a dismal 2-7 ATS as a home underdog. They’re an even worse 0-6 ATS during that period as a home underdog of 5.5 or less, and shot a horrible 36.3% from the field in those contests. High Scoring Contests in New Orleans Since the start of last season, the Pelicans may be a mediocre 21-21 at home, but their games have provided plenty of high scoring entertainment. Through the course of those home contests, New Orleans is 31-11 (73.8%) over the total, and there was a combined average of 212.4 points scored per game. As a matter of fact, in this season’s home opener, New Orleans lost to Denver 107-102, and the game went over the total of 207.0.
